Hello. Today I started VOA7 and listened to VOA121-122-123-124-125. I listened to press TV also. I read OPD and learn some new words: bellhop, bell captain, door man, park attendant, luggage cart, carterer, bus person. But I couldn’t find a synonym for sous chef and bus person in dictionary. These 2words are in hotel section. Thanks

A souschef de cuisine (French for “under-chef of the kitchen”) is a chef who is “the second in command in a kitchen; the person ranking next after the head chef.” Consequently, the souschef holds a lot of responsibility in the kitchen, which can eventually lead to promotion to becoming the executive chef.

In North America, a busboy, busgirl, busser or bus person is a person who works in the restaurant and catering industry clearing tables, taking dirty dishes to the dishwasher, setting tables, and otherwise assisting the waiting staff.
